The Kangaroo Hoppet is the largest international snowsports event in the Southern Hemisphere and returned to Falls Creek for its 21st year on Saturday August 27, 2011.

The Kangaroo Hoppet is Australia’s premier long distance cross country ski race, and a member of the prestigious Worldloppet series of international cross country ski events. Worldloppet is a union of the most famous cross country ski races in the world attracting over 50,000 skiers annually. Worldloppet races are held each year in Austria, Italy, Germany, Japan, Canada, USA, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Norway, Estonia, the Czech Republic and Australia.

A big congratulations to the first skier across the line, Petr Novak from the Czech Republic, making it the third time in the event’s 21 year history that a Czech skier has won. Double Australian Winter Olympian Esther Bottomley was the first woman home in the 30km, making it back-to-back Hoppet victories for the home-grown Mt Beauty skier.
